Between the Silence

There is a silence between night and day,
There is a light between the stars in the sky,
And the magic of the moon has its own way,
A wild and unpredictable lie.
The sun sheds tears as I fight,
Living my life on blood staining the sand.
Those beautiful sun-drops give off wonderful light,
And I catch them in my hand,
Afraid to let them go
Afraid to stain the beauty with decay.
I watch the battle flow,
And I see the slain men who might live on to this day.
The grains of sand take on an eerie quality,
The color fades to white,
Yet, because of my fidelity,
I continue my fight.
Blood falls from my hands
And yet again,
It stains the sands
With my many sins.
But seeing the beauty I could treasure,
I will forsake this ceaseless war,
I will forsake it forever
And forget it on this shining shore.
Between the silence of the night and the day,
I learned of peace,
And between the stars where darkness lay,
My battle will forever cease.
