Literature Text

In the lightest of the light did I dwell,
Blind to the dark, achromatic
Bound in my own iridescent hell,
A frigid hell, the ice emphatic.

I glimpsed him walk, some optical spell,
A shade on the walls, ecstatic,
His laughter like the tinkling of the bells,
His breath as a chemical, miasmatic.

Soon, my terror lifts me, compels,
Tells me of some place, ataractic.
But that devil glides by, my terror wells,
And he wears some mock dalmatic.

I breath my last as life expels,
The blended white, a silent operatic,
A fleeting symphony of yells,
This scintillating hell, panchromatic,

I am under the Devil's spell,
Bound in this iridescent hell.
I wrote this poem for a wordbank contest in :iconpassionforpoetry: Here is a link to the journal. [link]

I chose wordbank number two. To :iconme2smart4u: , these words all reminded me of a poem I had tried to write when I was fourteen. I took out that poem, revised it, featured the words, did a lot of experimenting with the symbolism and wordplay, and marveled at the finished product. And don't be surprised at the reference from Edgar Allen Poe. I have always been really impressed with his poem "The Bells".

Okay, to all of you people out there who don't know some of these words, I'll give you definitions for some of the harder ones.

Achromatic means without light

Emphatic basically means emphasizing.

Miasmatic pretty much means a putrid, horrible smell.

Ataractic is basically free of emotional disturbance or tranquil.

A Dalmatic is a kind of clothing that is worn at a Monarch's coronation. (When they get the crown and officially become King or Queen.) The reason I had the Devil wearing a dalmatic is because, in the Bible, Lucifer wanted more power, and his wearing this clothing is representative of his lust for power.

Panchromatic basically describes something that is sensitive to all visible color, like a photograph.

If there are any other words you would like me to explain, please look them up, or comment me. Happy reading!

Wow, this is very original! You definitely know how to give power to your words through rythm, and I love the feel of this piece. ♥
